Commissioned by MoLI with funds provided by the Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon “I am lost, I’m lost in a ceo – a mist – on the side of a hill on an Blascaod Mór....” Artist Gary Coyle’s Lost in a Ceo is a contemporary echo of MoLI’s Into the Island exhibition – Coyle’s installation is his own beautiful, and personal, meditation on the legacy of Peig Sayers and the Blasket storytelling tradition. Combining drawing, film and spoken word, Lost in Ceo considers the lives of the Blasket Islanders; the experience of Sayers’ autobiography for generations of Irish children; and teases out the concept of “Irishness”.
