Margaret Corcoran | Sailing to Byantium
The Lido Stores | Margate, England
23rd May - 8th June 2024
Margaret Corcoran’s practice draws on classical mythology, literature, poetry and art history. Her paintings are delicate yet confident, fluid yet certain. They delve into history and myth and bring back something tangible and illuminated.
In Sailing to Byzantium, she explores the relationship between W. B. Yeats’ poem of the same name and its intertextuality with Seamus Heaney’s acclaimed translation of The Aeneid, a masterwork of Roman poet Virgil, completed shortly before Heaney’s death in 2013.
